"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, only this time more wisely."

So things didn't go as planned this time around but I'm not giving up. Dusting off myself and giving it another go. I haven't gained weight, I actually lost 2 more pounds and an inch all around. I'm restarting the program because they don't recommend for you to miss more than a day per week. I was so sick and worn out last week that my body just couldn't handle the workouts. I'm really hoping that I'll be able to get through the entirety of this program and that I continue to lose the weight so that I can meet my goal.

P.S: Pictures and stats will be posted tomorrow.

  1. So, slim in 6, ay? What's that deal about? What happens after the 6?

  2. It's a program that I've done in the past and have only gotten through once. You workout 6 days a week, for six weeks, it has 3 different phases. Start it up, ramp it up and burn it up. After the 6 weeks you take one week off and start it again until you meet your goal. =)

  3. Ahhh...I see. Good luck! If you haven't been able to get through it once, it might not be the right program for you...keep that in mind. I don't want to discourage you, but just don't beat yourself up too much. We have to find the sustainable to make real change. That's not an easy task and may take trying several different things.

  4. Thank you! Yeah, it's not that it's a difficult program, it's that I have short attention span. lol I get easily bored, that's why I don't go to the gym, I'd rather hike or go for a walk. I'm gonna give this another go but if it still doesn't work out, I'll probably move on to 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michael's.

  5. Noooooooooooooooooooo! Jillian Michael's is super hot, but this kills her cred for me: http://icechamber.com/blog/2010/10/15/what-you-dont-know-can-sometimes-hurt-you/ This is a write up from my gym, but she got slammed by lots of folks in the kettlebell community, as well as the LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2010/oct/11/health/la-he-fitness-jillian-michaels-20101011. The youtube vid of her terrible form is now down, but you get the idea.

Anyway, I TOTALLY have workout ADD, and I don't like traditional gyms for that reason. Being a mouse on a treadmill isn't for this chica. I'm not sure what your schedule and budget are, but I'd recommend asking pals or even using Yelp to find an anti-gym type of gym. One where you can take classes, build relationships (so it's fun), and work out a million different ways 'til Sunday (to avoid boredom). I think it's a "stickier" way to approach the lifestyle change. I work in product, so you're always thinking about what makes a product "stick" (i.e. return purchases, consumer loyalty). In the world of fitness I think it boils down to two main elements - you have to like it and it has to work. The "like" element is highly variable, so I think "interviewing" gyms and trainers is the best way to go about it. Take full advantage of those 1st class free offers. Drag friends with you too:-) You don't want to end up in a situation where you love the facility, but the trainers are total asshats and you've just signed a 12-month contract. You want to like the facility, trainers and other clients. If you like the clients, you'll develop friendships. You'll more readily want to go to the gym. You'll laugh, be silly, but most importantly, you'll push and encourage each other. I most often describe my gym's workouts as "demented recess". I NEVER had a weight problem when I used to have recess twice per day. LOL! We'll do things as varied as kettlebell swings, race on the rowers, medicine ball tosses and piggy-back races all in the same workout. Every night is different, which is a necessity for Ms. Short-Attn-Span here. Look, I didn't even spell out "attention." :-) I really like the focus on functional movement too. You don't need a lot of machines and equipment. And, never be afraid of being the new kid or the slowest kid in class. We've all been there and any class/gym worth their salt will only encourage you.

Anyway....all of this is just my opinion and is worth a grand total of nada. I just wanted to share my experience, as I've definitely gone through a transformation over the last 18 months. I'm a much healthier (and smaller) person now:-)

    Good luck, my dear!
    XO
